Managing energy at work

It’s no surprise that businesses are needing to get more creative about how they onboard, manage and retain employees in an era of “VUCA”. You might be scratching your head thinking, “Another acronym?”. Yes, another acronym. VUCA means Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. I don’t find the challenges businesses are going through to be super surprising because we are in a time of radical shift and none of us has all of the answers. As an intuitive business and life coach, I am sensitive to the nature of change and to the energy we carry in this life. It starts with being conscious of what we’re putting out there when are with others, in the workplace, home, everyday interactions, etc. If you are stressed, anxious, or physically drained, energy management tools can help you relax and feel more balanced. And if you're already feeling good, it's always possible to feel a little better.

As a trained energy healer and Reiki master who helps individuals heal their energy body it made sense that this be something that could be brought into an office or virtual team environment. So I followed my intuitive hunch, reached out to my colleague at Collective Knowing in Oakland, and put pen to paper with drafting up a curriculum for people who’ve never dabbled in the energy arena. We put a little marketing behind my course and attracted a cohort of nearly 35 Fortune 1000 business staffers. All seeking some tools to navigate a new world, relaxation, healing and frankly, the ability to not take on the energy of family members and co-workers. As I like to say “Keep your energy to yourself”. It’s like when Mom told me to keep my hands to myself as a kid. Same goes for energy.

The day of the session, I was nervous but I knew what I was going to teach would be very powerful. We started off with a relaxed meditation and a prompt from me to start with the breathwork. Breathwork is important before even getting to healing energy tools. The breath is what opens and connects the mind/body/spirit. It’s your link, it’s your WIFI, it’s how you know all systems are go and healing can start. Even without healing management tools, just simply sitting and allowing for breathing can be very helpful.

From breathwork, we discussed the current context and dynamic change happening right now. There are a few paths one can take with change: 1) Ignore it and keep your head down (2) Be so fearful that you clutch at life and its difficult to make any decisions and then get super worn out (3) Recognize that while change is uncomfortable, it is also a time for expansion. Change makes space for the new. Energy healing and breathwork can help with in the moment experiences.

We then launched into an energy 101 to cover the basics, tools of grounding and connection, and most importantly for work, how to center or “ground” after difficult interactions.

Here’s the energy healing video for those who want to learn more. Don’t forget to let me know which tool you used and when! Thanks to Collective Knowing for hosting.

We’re turning into a multi-day course, so if you’re interested in that, contact me: serin@serinsilva.com
